It is not beneficial to study accounting in much depth, unless your an accounting major. Accounting requires specifics that give a new definition to "are we ever going to use this". For a general business major and Jobs that it in tails, one only needs the basics to be sufficient. The Accounting class requirements are also ridiculous. We have a unified test for everyone in the accounting classes, no matter who your professor is. This give rise to unfair advantages and disadvantages based purely on a professors teaching ability. Accounting is not a class you can teach to yourself. Even after you read the book, many queries are brought to your attention. This is also added to by the fact that the assistants for the class are only previous undergrads who passed the class with an A. Those individuals are not good teachers, they just have a natural understanding of accounting and can study. What is needed are accounting graduate students to be assigned to a class like they do in physics. This would give the Assistants greater knowledge base to answer questions as opposed to talking to an undergrad for three hours that "just gets accounting". If accounting were made more appealing and applicable then its study would apply to first hand events of the individual, thereby making the topic easier to grasp and utilize.
I just needed to vent this after failing my accounting test.
